Mothers Day 2015

Beej & Chris

Mother's Day this year we got to talk to Elder Scott via Skype. BJ made me feel amazing by making me breakfast in bed, asking the kids questions about me and giving it to me (I need to find that copy so I can add it on here), and then letting me rest all day while he did everything for me and the kids.

Yellowstone Day 3

BJ

On our final day, we really wanted to see a bear.  We did some research about a good area to see bears (though we know you have good opportunity everywhere.)  We woke up around 5 and got things ready and headed into the park really early.

We drove for a long time!  The kids really did awesome.  After a couple of hours, we needed to get out to stretch and to get some fresh air.

We drove a bit further and ran into a guy with a scope.  We got out to talk to him, but he wasn't very friendly.  He said he was watching wolves, but didn't seem too interested in talking.  Christie and the kids went on another walk before we decided to turn around, assuming we had run our course (and knowing we had 2-3 hours more driving to get back to the hotel.)

On our drive back, we ran into a large group of people using scopes and several of them were much friendlier!  They were watching wolves at first and then found bears!  The scope was hard to look through, but we tried to help the kids see as well.

In this picture, the bear is on the snow bank near the right hand side up at the highest point.  You can see a brown speck.  There were actually 2 bears up there.

We then hopped into our car to head back when not too far away we ran into a LOT of cars.  We hopped out and saw this mama bear.
And these 2 baby bears playing!  This was way cool because the kids were able to see these ones as they were just off the road.

We were the only crazy people with such young kids!

Not long after that, we saw fox out in a field.  It was quite a ways out in the field so we couldn't tell if it was a fox or a coyote for a while.  We tracked it for quite a while and eventually it came and went right across the road in front of us!

It was a super success!  But we all needed to relax so we went back to the hotel for a swim.

We ended the night by searching all over for an open restaurant!  Seriously, it was as much work as finding a bear :)  The first night we had no problem, but there was a lot of stuff that wasn't open yet since it was just before the busy time.  We walked into this restaurant and it looked closed.  We turned a corner and found it was actually open.  However, the servers acted like they didn't know what they were doing.  I had a bison dog!

Kaylee insisted on going back into the park one more time, so her and I gave it a go while Christie and the other 2 went back to the hotel.  We didn't see much other than some deer...

and one last waterfall!

Roll Over Roll Over

Beej & Chris

Shortly after Ashlynn tried rice cereal and right before she turned 4 months old, she rolled over for the first time. In fact, she rolled over from her back to her stomach first instead of the easier roll from her stomach to her back. It took her a few days before she could do both.

Yellowstone Day 2

BJ

On our second day, we headed into the park after we ate breakfast at the hotel.  The first thing we found were bison.  The kids were totally stoked (as were we the first few times, but by the end they weren't as exciting.)  Christie had me get out of the car to get something for the kids.  I didn't realize that the bison were so close and I may have hurried and got the thing she asked me to get and ran back into my chair.
The kids loved looking through their binoculars!

It was pretty warm while we were there, but there was still snow in some of the areas that were newly opened.

One of the first places we went was to the mud pots

It was totally stinky!

After we finished, we had a nice thunderstorm.  We drove to a nearby waterfall and Kaylee and I hopped out with the umbrella to go check things out.

The rain stopped and the skies cleared so we all hopped out and went down to check out the falls.

Next was time for old faithful.  It was quite a drive, so when we got there, Connor and Ashlynn were asleep.  Christie and Kaylee hopped out of the car while I got the other two loaded in the stroller.  Somehow we got there 10 minutes before it erupted.

We went into the vistor's center for a bit before they mentioned that another geyser would be going off soon.  We hurried out to see it, and really it was a lot cooler than old faithful.  It went off for quite a while.

Our final stop for the day was Gran Prismatic Springs.  The kids were worn out, so we tried having them sit together in the stroller.

Kaylee was not listening, so her and I had a nice walk straight back to the car to sit while Mom and Connor finished the boardwalk.

We finished the night by going out to eat at a restaurant in West Yellowstone.  Yummy!

Yellowstone Day 1

BJ

We love vacations!  I knew when we were in the apartment, we were going to need a vacation, so Christie and I started trying to figure out where we wanted to go.  Christie wanted to go the weekend we started talking about it, but I convinced her to wait until May.  We decided on Yellowstone since it had been a long time since either of us had been up there.

We made it from our apartment to Blackfoot without stopping.  Our first stop was at the Stinker stores!  The kids loved it.
We then went to a park nearby so the kids could get out and play for a bit.

Of course, Mom had to try out the slide to see what it was like and if she liked it.  Since we're putting a slide in our house she has to try all of them.  :)
Dad and Ashlynn and chilled while everyone else worked up a sweat.

When we got to our hotel, we got some Arby's and just chilled at the hotel.  We decided to go swimming, but discovered that Christie didn't have her swimsuit.  Christie went out to a couple different stores that were luckily open.  Neither had swim suits out yet, but she was able to get them to go in back and pull one out of the box.  Nothing like a swimsuit that you have no idea what it will look like or how it will fit. :)
