Knee Problems

Beej & Chris

As many of you know I have had some problems with my knee on and off since 2004. I have seen orthopedic surgeons, specialist, and have had physical therapy many times. After going from doctor to doctor after coming home from my mission early due to my knee's I finally just stopped and did all I could to prevent my knee's from swelling or causing pain. The only way I could do that was prevent standing for long time periods, staying away from the stairs, and resting my knees as much as possible. I have an amazing husband that is sooo support of me and does all he can to help me when my knees are bad so I have been doing really well. I do however get discouraged with all that I am NOT able to do and it gets me down. After looking at pictures of the hike BJ and his brother and sister just did (hopefully he will do a post about it soon :D ) instead of getting discouraged I got motivated.
BJ and I have a really high deductable for our insurance, but with BJ's blood pressure issues and the cost of giving birth to Kaylee we have almost met our maximum deductable so I decided to take advantage of that and start up physical therapy again. I talked to my doctor and asked if he would write me a prescription for physical therapy. I talked to BJ and planned to buy a stationary bike and do whatever I needed to do to strengthen my knees so I could at least run around with Kaylee as she gets older.
Well today I went to the Physical therapist. HE IS AMAZING!!! He actually sounds like he knows what he is talking about and he believes he can help me with the pain!!! I am so excited and more determined than ever to work my booty off to get feeling better.
**WARNING...Lots of medical terms and may be boring to those that don't enjoy medical talk**
I have always known that I was born with really loose joints. My arms would pop out of place all the time when I was little and when I was pregnant with Kaylee my hips would pop out a lot as well. So I wasn't surprised when he told me that I had loose joints. The PT (physical therapist) told me that my knee cap was located in the wrong place (which I knew from prior PT as well) and was called Patella Alta. The treatment for this is Lateral Retinacular Release where the orthopedic surgeon essentially go in and place the knee cap back where it is supposed to be. The PT said this could be an option LATER on in life but didn't think it was a good idea right now. The problem is, is that I already have weak loose joints so to move my knee cap (patella) would just make my knees even weaker. Since my joints are loose and my knee cap is in the wrong place my muscles have adapted to this and become really tight so he wants to loosen the muscles and work on the cartilage in my knee. He specifically mentioned working on my IT band and hips. He also noted some tendinitis that is apparently causing (or something is...can't remember what) the bursitis (the swelling under my knee). Oh yeah...one more thing. I have flat feet which he believes has also been caused from the loose joints. SOOOOO
The treatment for all of this is...

Wriap my knee's placing the knee cap in the correct place...which should help decrease my pain as we strengthen my knees and loosen the muscles hopefully helping my knee cap to get back to where it should be.

He also wrapped my feet to help with my arches. The PT believes the the flat feet are helping to cause the pain in my knees.
I will keep my feet and knees wrapped for 48 hours and will return to see the PT on Thursday. I am really really excited because the wraps are already helping the pain. I feel confident that things are going to get better and that makes me smile. I will keep ya posted as I progress through PT.

Random..Cute...Funny...Pictures

Beej & Chris

I have a few random pictures of my silly Kaylee that I thought I would just post...cause I want to remember these fun memories.
We just bought Kaylee a high chair. It took me awhile to decide on one I liked. Well after looking for awhile I finally got this one. Mostly because it has attachable toys on it. I always remembered my niece and nephew would just throw their toys off the high chair so I thought if it was attached that would be so helpful. I did not realize however, how distracting the whale was going to be to Kaylee!! Ha ha She looks at the whale's eyes all the time as if she thinks their is someone right there looking at her.

Silly girl keeps standing in her crib instead of taking naps!

We still haven't baby proofed so this is what Kaylee does while I am doing a blog :)

Isn't he just the cutest dad ever!

Kaylee loves her daddy soo much!

6 Month Well Child Visit

Beej & Chris

Kaylee is now 1/2 year old!!! She is growing up way way to fast. Kaylee started crawling right before she turned 6 months old and is now pulling her self up on everything trying to walk. She will pull her self up and just stand there reaching for things until she falls down and then gets up and does it again. It shouldn't be funny but when she is holding on to something and falls she keeps holding on to whatever she was pulling her self up to stand on and looks at me with this "ahh what is happening" look as she is falling and it is hilarious. We bought a walker at a garage sale and she found it in her room when I sat her down and started to play with it. She pulled her self up on it and it started to move and instead of letting go she just held on as tightly as she could and fell down stiff as a board. (side note- I don't just watch Kaylee fall. These are times when I wasn't close enough to catch her). I try to put her to bed in her crib for naps but she will just pull herself up and stand there crying. We have to keep going in there and help her sit down and calm her down so she will go to sleep.

It is soo fun watching her explore the world. She grabs and everything and looks at it. You can see her little mind working. We just got back from her 6 month check up. The doctor gave us a sheet of all that she should be able to start doing in the next 3 months

- Baby will get to a sitting position and pull to a standing position
- Baby will start to crawl
- Baby will start to show separation and stranger anxiety
- Baby will turn when name is called

The doctor then told me that Kaylee is just trying to grow up too fast. She said "She is just doing things really early. She is advanced for her age. Oh boy are you in trouble". The doctor didn't need to tell me that I was in trouble cause I already knew it. Even though I am following her around telling her "no..no Kaylee" and cleaning up the Cd's and Dvd's that she has pulled out. She is SOO much fun! I love seeing her learn. I love her facial expressions and hearing her laugh out loud. She has the cutest personality and I wouldn't change it for a minute.

Here are her stats

Weight: 16 lbs 8 ounces----------70%
Length: 27 inches-------------95%
Head Circumference: 17 inches----------70%

The doctor said she is tall and skinny with a normal size head. :) Although I don't really know how accurate the length was. She was moving all over the place when the nurse tried to measure her. As soon she she would put the pencil up by her head to mark it she would move her head to look at what she was doing. The nurse said, "wow she is really smart and curious".

As far as an update on what Kaylee is eating now. She started eating rice cereal at 4 1/2 months. It took her a little bit to get used to but she loves it now. Her favorite food is squash. She LOVES it! She has pretty much tried all of stage 1. We tried giving her meat and she couldn't quite get used to the texture so we will wait a bit before we try it again. I am now giving her stage 2 mixed vegetables and she eats the whole jar. I also bought her some puffs that she hold in her hand yesterday and she loved them. She has two little teeth that she has had for about a month now. I can see a few more coming in. To help with teething I give her Popsicles. We share it. Here is a video of Kaylee getting way too much in her mouth ha ha.

Now that I have bragged all about Kaylee I will end now. I know it is probably boring to other's but I really really want to remember these special memories. I am having so much fun being a mom. It is a lot A LOT of work but so rewarding at the same time. BJ brought Kaylee in to lay with me this morning at 645 am before he left for work. We just played and cuddled and both fell asleep in my bed. I love these memories and the fun I have with Kaylee and I want her to be able to read about them someday. :)

Camping in the Uinta's

Beej & Chris

Since Kaylee did so well camping for the first time at Bear Lake, the weekend after Bear Lake we decided to take Kaylee camping in the Uinta's with some of Christie's friends from Nursing school.

L-R Eric, Rachel, Ryan, Kaylee

The boys getting ready to go fishing!

They got a few bites but didn't catch anything at this point so the girls went out and Rachel caught a fish as soon as we got there! That's right boys! :)

Ryan and Kaylee chillin out

Nicole and Jeremy (newlyweds)

BJ throwin a line

Look at all that fish

Nina taught BJ how to gut the fish. He thought that was soo cool that she knew how to do it. He kept telling me that I need to learn too. ha ha ya right. I was shaking when my hands got close to the worm when I was putting on power bait. It's not going to happen honey sorry.

Kaylee and I cuddling by the fire

The cute prego girlies
Rachel on the left is just over 8 months and Nina is around 14 weeks?

Nicole and Kaylee
Jeremy just jumped on Eric...silly boys

This was the tree right next to Nina and Tanner's tent. It had bear marks on it and Tanner is deathly afraid of bears. That didn't help at all!
Kaylee playing in her playpen

Putting up the tents
Camping was a lot of fun. I had SOO much fun fishing. Eric and Tanner would put the worms on the line for me and taught me how to tie the line. I ended up catching 5 fish but had to throw them all back. They were all really little. It was a really cold night so none of us slept very good. But we had fun talking, playing games, and sitting by the fire and thankfully Rachel didn't go into labor with the high altitude. :)

We LOVE the annual Bear Lake reunion!!! We had a lot of fun. We went from friday-sunday. Friday night was really really windy and Kaylee slept amazing but BJ and I woke up from the noise a few times in the night. Saturday night it was cold but quiet and Kaylee was up all night. Funny how that goes.
There were a lot of family that wanted to play with Kaylee so BJ and I went out on the ski doo's a few times and had a blast. We took Kaylee in the water one time and even though it was cold she loved splashing and playing in the water. We can't wait for next year's reunion!!!

I love the expressions on mine and Kaylee's face....ha ha
I forgot to post this one before. Kaylee had a stinky diaper so we stopped by the side of the road to change her. Just after I got her diaper off she decided it would be funny to pee on me. This is me telling BJ "you come change her- she just pee'd on me"
