“I Can’t Do Everything” – Michael McLean from Celebrating the Light
I can’t do everything. I know because I tried.
I told myself I could, and then I found I lied
I believed with all my heart that I could do it all,
But I can’t do everything, and when I try I fall.
I can’t please everyone. I know because I tried.
I need their love so much, sometimes I compromised.
But the more I live and learn, the more I clearly see
That I can’t please anyone, until I’m pleased with me.
So here I am asking with all my heart
For the feelings I have been dreaming of.
Just fill the empty spaces that keep us apart,
And help me find myself in your love.
Cause I can do anything
without some help from above.
And I can’t please anyone until I know I’m loved.
And I believe I’m loved
Michael McLean really summed up how I am feeling right now. Life is SO BUSY right now I don't even know where to begin. My blog is SO FAR BEHIND it is overwhelming to think about catching it up- but I feel a big push to so I can write down and remember these cherished years with my young kids. There is just so much to do everyday and not enough time to do it. I keep telling myself that now is not the time to take on big projects or go to the temple every week or read the B.O.M in a month. It is a busy time and a time where we have to choose between two good things and know it is ok to say no to having the missionaries over for dinner or helping someone move...but IT IS SO HARD TO. I want to do it all! I want to help everyone. I want to play with my kids all day long and teach them with love and patience. I want to work as a nurse and care for those that need help. I want to be the best cub scout leader out there. I want to be the good neighbor who brings cookies over to their house just because'. I want to please everyone and be someone people want to call and hang out with. I want to have all the patience in the world and have my kids want to be with me all the time (even when they are teenagers). I know I know I want it all.
But I am finally realizing after reading Michael McLean's thoughts- that I can't do anything without help from above. The gospel is so basic. Each day I start out with a prayer and scripture reading the day always seems to fall into place. Sure it may not be perfect, but I am content and happy. So here is to a new start. :)
