BJ and I went to stake conference this last Sunday at the conference center in Salt Lake. We decided it would be best to sit up at the top...close to the exits just in case we had to get out a few times with Kaylee. WELL...apparently that is what everyone with Young kids thinks as well. BJ and I usually sit as close to the speakers as we can; especially at the conference center so this was way out of the ordinary for us and we discovered a whole different mommy/daddy world up there. When I asked the usher where I could feed Kaylee; she took me to this room where their was a TV, 4 really nice rocking chairs, and a place to change her diaper. If BJ wasn't in their waiting for me sitting by himself; I may of just stayed in there. :-) I didn't know any of the women in there but since we were all breastfeeding a baby we had something in common and just chatted away like we had all known each other from high school.

When I got back to my seat I kept finding myself watching these kids playing with their dolls or eating their snacks. I even caught a mom reading a friend magazine while Elder Eyring spoke. I then turn around and see a mom coloring in her little son's coloring book while her husband was out with their son trying to calm him down.
I am even catching myself bringing in snacks with Kaylee's diaper bag. I mean it is so big and ya never know when you are going to need a yummy treat right?

Saturday was a pretty busy day and I am so grateful that Kaylee was so amazing throughout the day!

We started the morning by doing a 5k walk for autism up at "This is the Place" monument. I bundled Kaylee up in her car seat with three blankets with her hat and gloves. Thank goodness I did cause it started SNOWING on our walk! Kaylee just slept through the whole thing! As soon as the walk was over Kaylee woke up ready to eat, so I fed Kaylee in the car.

I made sure to bundle Kaylee up but forgot to bring a jacket or coat for me. Whoopsie

Making a silly face. She wanted her hands out so she could play with her frog. When you push the frogs eyes it plays music. The other day I heard the music go off in the car. I figured her blanket hit it or something, but I looked back and found her little thumb on the eye pushing it. She did it 3 or 4 more times after that! She is growing up way to fast!

We then headed to the South Town Expo center to the Scout-a-Rama. BJ walked around with her from 12-1:30 while I sat at the booth with the scouts. Our troop did paper airplanes. I don't want to brag or anything but I made some freakin awesome paper airplanes :) lol jk

We then headed back home where I got ready for the few home health work visits and headed out to work. Came home and quickly changed and ate dinner so BJ and I could go to the adult meeting for our stake conference. BJ and I had originally planned to go out to a movie that night cause we forgot about the adult meeting..but since my mom reminded me...we decided we should be good and go and just went to the 9:30pm movie "How to train your dragon". I was kind of worried taking Kaylee into the movie theatre. 1- because what if she wants to eat? How awkward would it be to breastfeed in the movie theatre ha ha 2- it is pretty loud..what if she just screams? It turned out I didn't need to worry at all. Kaylee slept the whole movie! Which by the way...way cute movie! BJ and I both really enjoyed it.

In rememberance of Mark Harmon

MARK HARMON

This past week we celebrated the life of a man named Mark Harmon who passed away at age 49. Mark was like a second father to me and my brothers and sister. He and his wife Lesia were my parents best friends. They did everything together! The Harmon family would go to our reunions with us. They came to every family event as did our family to theirs. They used to live by us when we lived in North Salt Lake and then again in Layton.

Mark was a very generous and loving man and always took good care of his family....he will be greatly missed.

Here is a poem that his son Curtis Harmon wrote about his dad:

The Greatest Man I Ever Knew

The greatest man I ever knew taught me everything
He taught me how to ride a bike and even how to sing

He taught me how to get things done and how to laugh and love
He taught me how to camp and fish and how to swing a club

He taught me by example how to love a little child

He taught me to ride a motorcycle and to be a little wild

He taught me how to cook and grill and how to light a fire

He taught me to become a man a woman would desire

He even worked two jobs at once so we could serve our missions

Some may have called him husband, son, brother, uncle, cousin,
friend, neighbor, boss, or sir, but I just called him Dad!

My dad spoke at the funeral along with Mark's daughter Amanda, his brother, and his son Curtis. They all did a wonderful job! Curtis shared some significance in the flowers that went over the casket. It had one single rose in the spread. I guess Mark gave his wife Lesia 11 roses for special occasions such as her birthday, anniversary, and mother's day because on their wedding day he gave her 11 roses and told her that she was the 12th rose.

Mark Loved to ride his motorcycle so his two sons and his brother in-law did a motorcycle escort to the graveside. I am just so grateful for the plan of salvation and to know that Mark's family will get to see him again!

New Calling...

I was just called to be a cub scout leader in my ward. I am going to be with the "wolves" or the 8 year old boys. Was I excited for my new calling? Well...I didn't even know women taught scouts! :-) I am not gonna lie, kind of nervous for this calling. I really don't know what I am doing and I have never really been that into scouts. My dad was a scoutmaster for years and he loved it. He did a great job at it and made it look like fun. So I am sure if I set my mind to have fun and do my best than it will be a lot of fun. When I asked BJ what he remembers from cub scouts. He said that he remembers having fun and doing things like the pinewood derby and the scout a Rama. He also remembers having his Wolf den leader come to his eagle court of honor even though she wasn't in the same ward when he completed it. I thought that was really neat. I want to have an impact on these boys and help them make a goal to get their eagle later on.

This Saturday is the scout a Rama. I am assigned to be at our booth from 12-1:30pm. I guess we are helping the boys make paper airplanes and there will be a target for them to throw the paper airplanes at, and tootsie rolls for the winner's.

BJ really wants me to go buy a yellow scout uniform. I am a little hesitant but I agree with him; I can't really ask the boys to wear their uniform if I don't myself. I am just not a fan of the yellow scout uniforms. Plus at the pack meeting this last Tuesday, only one leader wore a uniform. Anyway...wish my luck!

KAYLEE JOY TENNEY

Yesterday was Kaylee's baby blessing. BJ did a great job! The spirit was strong and the blessing was beautiful. Kaylee wore my blessing dress and she looked so tender and sweet in it. After the blessing we had our family over to our house for some food. There was a lot of people, but I think it went pretty good. That was the first time I hosted such a big event at our house; I got asked so many questions "how do you want the chairs?" "do you want me to put the plates on the left or the right" "where do you want the tables". lol I had so much power....too much power. I really didn't care where anything was as long as the food was on the table, it had a spoon in it, and everyone had a place to sit. Saturday BJ and I were cleaning and working outside trying to get everything ready that I didn't get time to set everything up, so it was sooo nice of everyone to help us throw it all together!

Two month check up

TWO MONTH checkup stats:

Height: 22 1/2 inches long (50%)

Weight: 11 lbs 6 ounces (75%)

Head Circumference: 15 1/2 inches (75%)

WOW! Kaylee is growing and growing and growing! I think I figured out why she is in the 75% for her weight. Since Kaylee doesn't take a binky she sucks on her hands a lot making me think she is hungry. When we were at the doctors appointment, she was eating her hands like crazy so I turned to the doctor and said, "Doesn't it look like she is hungry?" He said "yes, but at this age since she doesn't suck on a binky it isn't unusual for her to put her hands in her mouth just because". So, it is sometimes hard to tell when she is just sucking to suck or when she is hungry. But I think BJ and I have got it down for the most part now. So much to learn being a first time parent :-)

The last post I said I was pretty nervous about Kaylee's first shots. Well, I took my friend Rosalee's advice and had BJ buy some infant tylenol drops and gave it to Kaylee right before I left for the appointment. I also asked that two nurses do the shots so it went quicker and they gladly agreed. As soon as the nurses were done with the shots, I quickly grabbed Kaylee up into my arms. The nurses were like, "we need to put a bandaide on it!" lol I let them put the bandaide on while I was holding her. I don't know why this was so hard for me. I mean I am a nurse and I helped hold down kids at primary childrens while they got shots. But this was my daughter and she just got poked three times in the leg! Poor Kaylee SCREAMED and screamed and screamed some more. They left the room and I just cuddled with her for about 10 or so minutes in the room. She would start to calm down and then it was like she remembered why she had been screaming and started screaming some more. It was so sad.

By the time I got back to the car she had calmed down. I buckled her in her carseat and as I was pulling my arm back from strapping her in, Kaylee grabbed my finger and held it soo tight. I let her hold it for a little bit and then I started to pull my finger away and she squeezed it tighter. I mean TIGHT. She has grabbed my finger before but never held it this tight before. awe it was so sweet, it was as if she was saying "Mom. don't leave me, stay here and protect me".

After the drive home from the doctor's appointment I looked back and saw kaylee playing with her toy on her carseat so I took a video.

At six weeks Kaylee was smiling like crazy and started to enjoy the mirror and playing on her play gym. She started cooing and interacting not long after that. She is sleeping for about 5- 6 hours a night and is staying more awake and active during the day now. I love when she tries to talk. She will talk and talk and talk and when you stop paying attention she will scream in a high pitch tone.

This was just after 6 weeks old. You can't even see Kaylee in there! She slept in there while I cooked dinner. I will have to take a picture to show you how much she has grown cause you can see her little head poke out now.

So I decided I am just a "wordy" person. This could have been a short post but instead it is so long! I don't know how to make it short. I just write and write and write my "wordy" account of the whole day! Sorry for those who read these posts....if we still have people read these really really long posts!

Fun things

I just wanted to quickly post a few things we have done these past few weeks before I forget.

1) BJ invited his dad and brother to help my dad do his annual dutch oven catering job for Farm Bureau. They started cooking at 12pm and I came to help serve with my mom at 7:00pm. My dad loves to cook dutch oven and BJ loves to help. They cooked for 180 people and ended up serving around 160. By the end everyone is totally exhausted, but it ends up being all worth it when we get to get the left overs! :) yummy.

I can't help but smile when I see the picture. Kaylee just spit up all over my mom. Kaylee is so cute even when she is mad.

Look at them hard at work. Cutting potatoes is my least favorite job!

2) Challae; one of my friends from nursing school and I took our sweet babies to show off to our teachers at the DATC. I brought my camera but forgot to pull it out. :( So I will have to steal a picture from Challae's blog to show off her cute baby! Challae and I were due the exact same day, but Challae ended up having her baby 4 days before me. Our little daughters are so different and unique. Challae's baby (Brinlee) is sooo tiny. When she was born she was 5lb 10 ounces and Kaylee was 7lbs 5 ounces. Brinlee loves to cuddle and takes a Binky like a champ. Kaylee loves to kick around and move all over the place and will not take a Binky at all!

After the DATC we met up with another friend from nursing school Julie. Julie was so kind and took us both out to lunch at Pei Wei an Asian diner. It was really good. It was fun to catch up with both Julie and Challae! We definitely need to do it again soon.

3) I went from a relaxing quiet day with a newborn to a crazy fun filled exhausting day with two additional kids. I got to watch my niece (Brooklyn) and nephew (Carson) yesterday from 7:30 am till about 3pm. We watched the movie Cars, went to the park, played the Wii, colored, had lunch, and had an hour of quiet time :-)

I clipped and painted Brooklyn's fingernails. She sat really still for me I was impressed.

This was quiet time. Brooklyn slept for almost two hours!

Can you see Carson in the doorway...he is running away from the camera in his tighty whities. He is potty trained but had a little accident so I had to wash his pants.

While Brooklyn was sleeping I took Carson upstairs with Kaylee and we turned on the Disney channel. It only lasted for about 2o minutes but it was really nice and relaxing.

I had a lot of fun with these cute kids. They are so smart and full of energy. I am super impressed with their parents; my brother and sister-in-law. They both work full time but always take time with their kids to play and teach them new things. Am I ready to have three kids running around? No, not yet. For now sweet little Kaylee is busy enough for me :0)

4) We shampooed the carpet downstairs in preparation for the baby blessing this Sunday.

We put all our stuff from the front room into the kitchen so we could get a good cleaning in. It was a lot of work but the carpet looks much better! Thanks Kiersten and Johnathon for letting us borrow your carpet cleaner!
