Broken Foot on Daddy's birthday

Beej & Chris

On BJ's birthday after Kaylee got home from Kindergarten we decided to surprise daddy and take him lunch for his birthday. We decided to buy him one of his favorite (hamburgers at Five Guys). Since they didn't have a drive through I parked the car right in front of the doors of Five Guys and ran in to order. I immediately came back out to the car and hung out with the kids. I then went back in and waited for a little bit but they still weren't finished with his food, so I kept going back and forth from the car into the restaurant because I was so worried about leaving my kids in the car by themselves for longer than a minute or two. Well, one of the times I was rushing back to the car to sit with the kids while we waited for the food I stepped off the curb wrong and landed with my ankle twisting. I heard a loud "POP" and fell the the ground. The kids saw me fall and Kaylee got really concerned. Another man saw me fall as well and came over to see if I was ok. I quickly stood up but didn't put any weight on my foot. The guy who saw me told me to try to put weight on it, I barely touched it to the ground and he said "Ok, you didn't break it otherwise you wouldn't have been able to do that". I secretly knew he was wrong, but wished he was right. That kind man offered to go in and get my food for me. I hopped into the car and stupidly started driving to BJ's work since the foot I hurt was my left foot.

I didn't call BJ because we had made plans to go in and sing to him for his birthday. I didn't want to ruin his birthday and I was just hoping it was a really bad sprain and that I would be ok. Well, as I was driving from Bountiful to Murray on I-15 the pain really set in. I tried so hard to be tough but kept hollering out "Ouch! That hurts" with a few tears streaming down my face. Kaylee was so concerned and said, "I wish I could drive because I would drive for you. Are you ok mom?". I finally ended up calling my mom thinking she could meet me at an Insta Care and watch my kids for me while I go get my foot checked so we didn't have to take BJ away from work on his birthday. At this point I was still trying to figure out how we were going to get inside BJ's office to sing for him for his birthday. By the time I pulled up to BJ's office I knew I was not going to be able to put any weight on my foot and broke the news to the kids. I told them we would have daddy come to the car and we could sing to him then. When he came to the car I tried to keep it together but when I saw his loving face I broke down and said "I think I broke my foot". He obviously helped me into the passenger seat and took me to the insta care himself. My mom met us there and helped watch the kids while BJ came in with me to see the doctor.

Here is my x-ray. The technician couldn't technically say anything, but said to me "Umm...you are probably going to need to make an appointment with a surgeon". Happy Happy Birthday BJ ;)
They wrapped my foot, gave me a shot of medicine and sent me home with some more pain meds. At first I told them I would be fine. But I quickly realized that it really was hurting pretty bad.

Here are some pictures of my lovely foot all swollen
Ha ha BJ gave me the funniest look when I told him we were trying to figure out how to come into his office to sing. He was shocked we DROVE to Murray after breaking my foot. Needless to say they sent me home telling me I needed to stay completely off of it until I see a surgeon. The kids were pretty sad because I knew I couldn't take them to Cherry Hill by myself with crutches. Sigh, not how we were wanting the summer to go ;)
That night it was Kaylee's big end of year performance. I of course made BJ let me use my crutches to go watch her. Yes, it hurt...but yes, it was worth it. I hate missing anything with these kiddos. They are my pride and joy.

My AMAZING brother Nate came to support the kids. Nobody else could make it, so the kids were really excited to have him there.

I then asked my mom to pick up a birthday cake for BJ so his birthday wasn't totally ruined. Thanks mom!

BJ and I were talking about how grateful we were for the secret door to our bedroom with my broken foot. It was so nice not to have to walk around the whole house to get to the bedroom.

Since I still needed to be a mom with a broken foot, Ashlynn and I got creative. I hopped into the kids ride a long car and took ashlynn to the back of the house so I could weed. I know I know, weeding shouldn't have been on my priority list but we had just got ridden of all of our weeds when we put in our grass that I was super determined not to let them go crazy again.

While I was busying weeding Ashlynn snuck away and got into the car
Before I knew it she was riding on her own on the Lindsey's backyard grass. I didn't have my crutches with me since I got there with the car so I hopped one footed to her while yelling for BJ (who was inside working from home) "BJ! BJ come help! Ashlynn is driving away!" ha ha. Luckily Ashlynn stopped right before she ran into the rocks around their flower garden. I learned my lesson not to leave the car unattended with Ashlynn nearby.
My amazing friend and previous Woods Cross neighbor Michelle Jamison surprised me and came and cleaned the bathrooms.

Then my sister Angela came to see how I was doing.

She even brought me my favorite M&M's.
